Design Criteria
Seeds Trust has been conducting its own wildflower mix trials and tests for more than twenty-three years. We continue to work on our long-term goal of a perennial, mountain, wildflower mix. We also continue to improve our annual mixes so that gardeners can enjoy the magic of wildflowers with a minimum of work. Our goals in order of importance are as follows:
- Wildflowers that do not take over gardens and yards and result in time consuming, "weedy" messes.
- Wildflowers that bloom earliest in the spring or fit into a sequence with other acceptable flowers to produce a balance of colors all season-long.
- Wildflowers that are easy to germinate and require a minimum of maintenance.
- Wildflowers that are drought tolerant.
- Wildflower mixes that remain balanced perennially with a minimum of subsequent labor.
NOTE: Each year we custom mix hundreds of mixes for experienced customers who want to fine tune one of our mixes by adding or removing individual flowers from our mixes. This is as it should be. You will know more about your particular environment and personal tastes than we ever will. Let us know what we can do to help you design your perfect wildflower garden.
