New Varieties Now Available

We have been working hard these past couple months to develop some relationships with new seed growers in our region. As a result of our customer survey from last year, there were a few specific varieties many people were requesting, such as grains!!

Seeds Trust is so happy to announce the first roll-out of these new varieties from Laura at High Desert Seed & Gardens out of Montrose, CO. Growing at 5,807’ these seeds are super hardy and very special. We are so excited to be able to offer some fun new items for our customers, and support Laura as a woman seed farmer.

We will be rolling out another round of new offerings soon - so stay tuned!

High Desert Grains

Quinoa - High Desert

Grown by High Desert Seed and Farm in Montrose, CO.

From a genetic mix of different quinoas that they have been selecting for 5 years. In fall it provides a fantastic show of colors ranging from dusky purples and oranges to neon pink. An average year produces waist-height plants. Productive with large white seeds. They have been selecting toward mid-size plants to reduce lodging. Young leaves are delicious when added to salad greens. Be sure to wash seeds before cooking/eating.

Amaranth - Burgundy

Grown by High Desert Gardens and Farm in Montrose, CO.

An important food of the ancient Mayan and Aztecs. This variety is striking! Grows to 6' tall plants with burgundy leaves, stems, and plumes. Young leaves are a beautiful addition to salads. The grain can be cooked like rice or popped like popcorn. It is gluten-free and a complete protein containing 13-15g of protein per 100g. Its leaves and seed contain important B vitamins, vitamin E and almost all amino acids important for the human body. Drought tolerant and adaptable to marginal soils.

New Veggie + Herb Varieties

Basil, Holy - Tulsi

Grown by High Desert Seed and Farm in Montrose, CO.

Ocimum tenuiflorum. Holy basil is commonly grown outside the front door in India. This “Queen of Basils” has been cultivated for religious and medicinal purposes for over 4000 years.  It's used as a soothing tea and remedy for many common ailments and is a known adaptogen. Has an unusual sweet aroma and flavor reminiscent of vanilla and anise. This variety came from Seed Saver Unpetu Oihankesni.

Tomatillo - Verde

Grown by High Desert Seed and Farm in Montrose, CO.

These tomatillos are a tangy, zesty, or sweet addition to salsas, salad dressing, or soups. My new favorite summer recipe is avocado and roasted tomatillo salad dressing. This is an early maturing variety that produces large fruit heavily set on branching plants. Tomatillos are known for doing well in harsh conditions. Does well in cool nights. Drought tolerant. Early maturing.

Carrots - Rouge Sang Violette

Grown by High Desert Seed and Farm in Montrose, CO.

A stunning and rare French heirloom. A sunburst inside and out, going from dark red shoulders to more orange at the tip and in cross section, containing colors from brilliant purple skin to an orange, and yellow core. Unlike many colored carrot varieties we find this one to be sweet without a trace of bitterness. Does well harsh and arid climates with good germination vigor. 

Mentioned in the Journal D'agriculture Pratique 1897 by Vilmorin. 6"long by 2" wide 72-76 days to maturity

We receive lots of requests for a print catalogue. Because we are a small business and try our best to be eco-friendly and low-impact with our waste streams, this is not something we currently offer. We are looking at options to offer this in the future, but for now we have updated our list of offerings into one downloadable .pdf

You can find our price list button on the homepage of our website, and at the footer of every page. We know this isn’t the same as a full seed catalogue, but for wholesale customers or folks who just want to peruse all of our offerings at a glance, we hope this will be a welcome addition!

Ordering Reminders & In Store Pick Up

For our local Colorado folks asking about our in-store pick-up option at check out, good news…

We are rolling into our busy season, so we’ll be in the seed packaging studio full time. That means for local CO Front Range/Denver area folks, you can now choose in-store pick-up at checkout and avoid shipping costs.

*** IMPORTANT ***

Once you choose this option your order goes into the fulfillment queue with all our orders. We process orders by the date they are received. As a small two person team, we do our absolute best to get you your seeds as soon as possible.

When your order has been packaged, you will receive an order fulfillment email letting you know that either your seeds are on their way to you, or they are ready for pick-up.

If you have chosen in-store pick-up, once you receive the fulfillment email you are now welcome to come get your order at our studio on Fridays between 11am - 1pm.

After three weeks, if you haven’t picked up your order, we will mail you your order and charge you accordingly.
